President’s Daughter Malia Obama Heading To Harvard University
The 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, marked a big milestone as his daughter Malia graduated from high school.
The soon-to-be 18-year-old Malia received a diploma during an outdoor ceremony at the private Sidwell Friends School in Northwest Washington.
President Barack, Michelle Obama and other family members were on hand for Malia’s big moment. But, any media coverage was blocked by the White House.
When Malia’s family moved to the White House, she was 10 years old.
Ever since, she grew up in the public eye, getting and casting off braces, being taught how to drive vehicles by Secret Service agents and Malia also spent short stints away from her presidential parents and sister.
President Obama has stated that it’s hard watching one of his best friends grew up so fast, in front of the world.
While the United States president was talking with donors at a New York fundraiser, he said he did a lot of commencements around this time of year – in which he has an intense feeling of deep affection of doing.
Barrack said that although his older daughter is graduating, he will not be able to handle that well.
President Obama has held his emotions accountable for politely refusing an invitation to deliver Sidwell’s commencement address, as former President Bill Clinton did in 1997 – when Chelsea (Clinton’s daughter) graduated from the same school.
Natasha, Malia’s younger sister, who just turned 15, attends Sidwell, too. And after Malia Ann’s graduation ceremony, the first family of the United States celebrated over lunch at Cafe Milano in Georgetown.
Malia plans to take a year off before enrolling at Harvard University in the fall of 2017.
But, Malia’s family hasn’t disclosed her plans for her gap year, however, as Malia delayed her college, she could keep close to her tight-knit family, as they prepare the end of Obama’s presidency in January.
After president Barack leaves the White House, the Obama family plan to stay in Washington for several years, so Sasha can finish her school at Sidwell.
Barack and Michelle often praise Malia and her sister for being normal, happy kids without being affected by living their lives that are anything but normal.
Malia and Sasha Obama were the youngest kids growing up in the White House since President John F. Kennedy’s children – John Jr. and Caroline.
Obama has talked humorously that it comforts him knowing that his daughters are being watched over by men with firearms – Secret Service agents.
However, Malia has traveled to Asia, Europe, South America, the Caribbean and Africa with the president and the First Lady. She even took a school trip to Mexico.
Malia came into the presence of celebrities and high-powered people, which include two popes.
The first African-American First Lady of the U.S. has stated that Malia wanted to be a filmmaker.
Where Malia has had summer internships in Los Angeles on a CBS sci-fi drama and on the New York set of HBO’s “Girls.” The experiences of Malia allowed her to sample life on her own.
